5 reasons why you should detox your wardrobe

It saves you time getting dressed for work in the morning

We have all been there. The moment you open your wardrobe and utter the words, ‘I have nothing to wear’. In fact, it has become so common it has turned into a cliché. Yet many professional women suffer this every morning, spending on average of 18 minutes deciding what to wear to work. If you have a busy lifestyle, those extra 18 minutes could be much better spent on other things. Yet by having a cluttered wardrobe you are knowingly putting yourself in a position to be frustrated and stressed every morning. 


It saves you money when you wear what you have

Do you know what you have in your wardrobe? Is everything laid out clearly for you to see so you can mix and match pieces to wear to work or events? If the answer is no, then it could be costing you hundreds, possibly thousands of pounds a year. If you can’t identify what you have, you will be forced to buy more and more clothes. The sign of a good capsule wardrobe is one that is coordinated and items of clothing complement each other. If you are only wearing a small portion of your wardrobe because you can’t create looks then your wardrobe needs a rethink.


It helps you identify what you are missing in your capsule wardrobe

When you detox your wardrobe and remove items that no longer work for you, it allows you to see what you are missing and what ineffective buying patterns need to be amended. For example, you may find that you have 5 pairs of black trousers or you keep buying the same style of clothing. It means you can quickly identify this pattern and stop. Again, if you have lots of bottoms and but few tops or vice versa, then you will be able to see what you need to buy to create more outfits.


It cleanses your past when you have experienced life changes

Most of us have experienced changes in our lifestyles, jobs, careers, bodies, health and family life. As a wardrobe detox expert, I can clearly see the progression of a client’s life in her wardrobe. I can see if she has gained weight, lost weight, had children or changed jobs. Doing a wardrobe detox is important to cleanse your past and to help you focus on who you are now, where we want to be in the future and to dress for it.


It allows you to create a better version of yourself

Many of my clients describe having a wardrobe detox as therapeutic. It helped them get rid of the old, the outdated and what was no longer working for them and let them create better, chicer versions of themselves. In order to be a better you, you have to let off of the past and the same applies to your image. If you find yourself defaulting to uninspiring suits for work or needing to upgrade your style for a promotion or a more senior role, then your wardrobe is a great place to start.
